Pink House

Pink House was created during a period of displacement, uncertainty, and longing. After being separated from my home and spending time without a place to call my own, I began drawing small pink houses throughout San Francisco on walls, poles, train stations, and wherever I could leave a mark. They became a quiet symbol of a desire that felt almost universal: I just want to go home.

Rather than depicting that experience literally, I chose abstraction. The figure emerged as something almost heroic strong, capable, and seemingly able to carry the weight of the world, yet still vulnerable enough to cry. The tears represent the realization that even the strongest person can be wounded by the people and places they love most.

I chose pink to represent a particular kind of pain: not rage, not destruction, but a gentle wound caused by love. Something soft enough to appear graceful, yet powerful enough to break you.

The small pink house within the work carries the simplest part of the story. It is a reminder that behind homelessness and displacement are often people who are hurting, people who lost circumstances they never intended to lose, and people who are simply searching for somewhere and someone to call home.

Pink House is ultimately about love, loss, strength, vulnerability, and the human need to belong.
